The Business/The Plain Dealers/Cruelster

When: Thu., Dec. 13, 9 p.m. 2012

Part of a punk offshoot/subgenre called Oi! that was unfairly associated with skinheads and neo-Nazis, the Business has somehow persevered for over 30 years now. Miraculously, founding singer Micky Fitz still fronts the English group, which re-formed in 1992 after breaking up in 1988. A few years ago, the band got a big boost in its native UK when the melodic anthem “England 5 Germany 1” was adopted as the fight song for the English soccer team. Their latest album, 2010’s Doing the Business, doesn’t entirely fit the Oi! Mold, as the vocals aren’t as obnoxious as normal, and the band opts to emphasize melody and good guitar riffs in tracks such as “Mean Girl” and “Till the End,” a terrific drinking anthem to which fans can hoist their beers.
