The Cleveland Salon

When: Thu., Jan. 24, 7 p.m. 2013

If your political conversations never seem to rise above the level your uncle’s recitations of his bumper stickers over agonizing dinners, don’t despair for deliberative democracy quite yet. The Cleveland Salon hopes to provide a space where concerned citizens can discuss the ideas and issues that shape our lives in a civil and thoughtful manner. This week’s experiment, “A Discourse on Government,” asks what we should want and expect from the state. Should the government nudge us towards good behavior or should it just provide security? Should it uphold standards of living or should it just protect equality of opportunity? Weighing in on these questions are concerned citizens (like you!) along with engineer Matt Jauch, Port Clinton Councilman Randall Lipstraw, attorney Michael Meuti and Saving Cities founder Jack Story. Make yourself heard tonight at 7 at Mahall’s 20 Lanes. Admission free, but business patronage is encouraged. (Joseph Clark)
