The College Try

When: Thu., Aug. 21 2014

Some people will do anything to be popular. That's the premise behind The Freshman, the 1925 comedy that served as a vehicle for actor Harold Lloyd (who ranks with Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton when it comes to old school comic actors). Lloyd plays Harold Lamb, a college kid at Tate University who tries his hardest to impress the object of his affection (Jobyna Ralston) by trying out for the football team and hosting a school dance. Hilarity ensues as Harold fails miserably, ultimately making a fool out of himself in the process. The Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque shows a new digital restoration of the film at 7 tonight and at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $9. (Niesel)
