The Fugs

When: Fri., Nov. 30, 8 p.m. 2012

The formation of the Fugs dates back to 1964, when the freak-folk/psychedelic rock act emerged from a New York bookstore to release an album that promoted activism and self-awareness and would essentially turn the band into the first underground sensation, helping to pave the way for arty acts like the Velvet Underground. Inspired by beat writers like William S. Burroughs and Allen Ginsberg, the Fugs are ’60s archetypes that write songs about peace, love and understanding without the ironic tone that today’s artists often take. This show will mark the band’s first Cleveland performance in 40 years, but the group’s shuffling line-up continues to change, and it’s touring without founder Tuli Kupferberg, who passed away in 2010.
