The Jauntee/The MuckleBuck/Dr. Fresh Butter

When: Tue., Aug. 13, 8:30 p.m. 2013

Hailed these days as one of the rising stars of the east coast jam scene, The Jauntee actually do earn that title rather handily. (One Relix contributor went so far as to proclaim them the heir to Phish’s throne.) At the very least, Enjoy the Ride, the band’s 2012 outing, showcases a young band capable of funk-laced improv and self-aware songwriting. Opener “Space Monkeys” is a calypso-tinged sojourn through several styles. And digging further into the album, it’s clear that these guys got chops. Guitarist Caton Sollenberger is just absolutely versatile up and down the neck. Check his solo on “Blowin’ Up The B Line” for a hint of what’s up. As everything progresses, the upbeat flavors of the album do a fine job of blending the wacky lyrics with the expansive and multifaceted musicianship. Listen: The band’s tour schedules confine them mostly to the Northeast these days. Check out this as-of-now rare appearance in sunny Cleveland. You’ll enjoy yourself. (Eric Sandy)
