The People: Poetry Slam and Open Mic

When: Thu., Feb. 9 2017

What goes with Hot Dogs and Tots? Poetry, of course. On the second and fourth Thursday of each month, Happy Dog East hosts Cleveland’s official poetry slam. This live event features a mix of vocal styling, inventive writing, and performance art. If you like to write, you can read your work at the open mic that precedes the competition; however, if you want to perform in the slam, you’ll have to sign up ahead of time. If you don’t want to read or perform anything, you can just hang out and enjoy the unique self-expression that comes from a slam. The competing poets are local writers and performers who present original work in each slam. The open mic begins at 9 p.m., with the slam following shortly thereafter. It’s $5 at the door, $3 with a student ID. (Johnny Cook)
