The Shining Music Festival with the Modern Electric/Welshly Arms/Seafair/Sam Goodwill/Silent Lions/Simpler Times

When: Sat., Oct. 26, 7 p.m. 2013

Over the summer, James Carol, the guy behind the local promotions company Cleveland Music City, decided to put together a music festival that would simultaneously celebrate Halloween and champion the city's best indie rock bands. So he set about booking the Modern Electric, Welshly Arms, Seafair and Simpler Times along with two non-local acts to perform at his inaugural concert. "I wanted it to be brand-able as an annual event," he says one afternoon from the Tremont coffeehouse Loop. "I like Halloween as the theme since it's a nice way to release your inhibitions and accept more things." He's partnered with Belmez Entertainment and the two dubbed their event the Shining, both as an homage to the horror film and as a way of acknowledging the showcase element of the event. "We always have a group of artists who participate in our events, and Bella Sin will put on a burlesque performance to add more flavor to it," says Carol. He's hoping to make the Shining into an annual event. "I want to mix it with new media," he says. "We build a lot of next wave artists in Cleveland and we've developed a good scene in the city and I want to promote that. I like to mix genres and I think of shows in the same way." (Niesel)
