The recent success of Philadelphia's American Speedway is nothing short of a miracle, considering the riff-rock quartet is only a year old. In a little more than 12 months, the group has mounted a tour and dropped its debut album, Ship of Fools, which gets loads of airplay on Sirius radio channel 29. While the disc rolls through plenty of AC/DC-like guitar licks and hi-NRG choruses, its attitude matches the band's outlook on hard-drinking, foot-stomping rock and roll. "Writing the record wasn't rocket science. The first 10 songs on the record were the first 10 songs we wrote," laughs Chris Callahan, the band's drummer.
