They have tried repeatedly to revitalize Ohio City since the 1970's. Unless they run off the drug dealers and hookers. That area will remain as it has for a long time.
I grew up on West 7th. When we mentioned Tremont, we referred to our elementary school. Then it was called either the South Side or Near West Side. I grew up in those housing projects in the 1960's and 1970's. I've seen the good, bad, and worst of that neighborhood. I'm glad its been revitalized.
It's my opinion but I think its an issue of location. When they stopped conducting the Fireworks show at Edgewater and moved it to Voinovich Park, it seemed to be an increase of an audience at Lakewood. Downtown Cleveland is a pain in the butt to get to. Including parking issues. So many on the near west side choose Lakewood instead. And with it comes problems.
Years ago there use to be a carnival at that park. Not any more. It's been quite awhile actually. Such a shame you cant keep tradition any more.
