Cleveland native Tony Jones' debut release is demonstrable proof of how far recording has come in the last 15 years. Like Dave Matthews and Matchbox Twenty, . . . So Last Year is so pitch-perfectly rendered and well produced that it could easily occupy a slot in the radio rotation alongside Jones' inspirations. His gruff baritone is abetted by fine arrangements that are full of detail, but not so much that it overwhelms the songs. Though the lyrics lean a bit heavily on the crutch of heartbreak, one is continually drawn back to the fine guitar-playing and tight backing band.
