Trap Them/Yautja/Homewrecker/Wallcreeper

When: Mon., Nov. 14, 7 p.m. 2016

Working alongside hardcore icons like Extreme Noise Terror and Kurt Ballou of Converge, Trap Them has impressed the older and younger hardcore generations with its unrelenting grindcore sound of menacing buzzsaw guitars and blastbeat rhythms. But on its most recent album, Crown Feral, the Boston quartet paired their reckless energy (heard in the barreling "Hellionaires") with more spatial moments harping on atmospheric doom and gloom (heard in the brooding misanthropy of "Twitching In The Auras"), making their sound all the more dynamic and sinister. Frontman Ryan McKenney broke both of his feet during a performance weeks ago, but that didn't stop him from finishing that performance that night, nor has it kept the band from continuing to tour. McKenney's residual foot pain may in fact help fuel the tormenting output onstage. (Sam Mendez)
