When Andy Met Lou: Andy Warhol, Lou Reed, The Velvet Underground and The Exploding Plastic Inevitable
When: Fri., Sept. 13 2019
When Andy Met Lou: Andy Warhol, Lou Reed, The Velvet Underground and The Exploding Plastic Inevitable, a new talk from local writer Thomas Mulready, explores the period in the 1960s when Andy Warhol, the king of Pop Art at the height of his career, decided to quit painting and devote himself to film and multi-media. After he's introduced to the Velvet Underground, he offers to be their manager and produces their first album. Mulready's talk traces the rise of Lou Reed, John Cale, Sterling Morrison and Maureen Tucker as they form one of the most influential outfits in contemporary music. It will also document Warhol's ascent from Pittsburgh wunderkind art student to advertising illustrator to the top of the visual arts world in New York City. The presentation includes rare video, photos, trivia, games, contests and needle drops. It'll also include a performance by local rockers Vanity Crash. It all goes down at 8 tonight and tomorrow night at the Bop Stop, with slightly different material planned for each night. Tickets cost $25. (Niesel)
