Wine and a Movie

When: Tue., Aug. 27, 5:30 p.m. 2013

It’s wine night in Detroit-Shoreway, ladies and grapes, and it looks to be one juicy time. For the modest price of $30, you’ll get a wine tasting at Toast from 5:30-6:45 with Master Sommelier Matt Citriglia. Then at 7, you’ll get to see the film Somm over at the Capitol, which tells the story of how Citriglia got to be a Sommelier in the first place. Here’s a hint: In the 40 years since the official “Court of Master Sommeliers” has been around, only 200 candidates have become Masters. The whole thing has a “White Wizard” vibe about it, but evidently it’s the most exacting test you’ve never heard of, and the film follows four dudes (Citriglia among them) as they lose their minds studying for this outrageously complicated entrance exam. After the film, there’s a Skype Q&A with director Jason Wise. If the movie sounds great, but drinking isn’t your thing, tickets for the film are just $10. The event repeats tomorrow night in Cleveland Heights at the same time with a reception at the Wine Spot and a screening at the Cedar Lee Theatre. (Allard)

Price: $10-$30
