Rhinos in the wild are vanishing quickly, and so are tickets to the newest conservation fundraiser to help them – Winos for Rhinos! Join the animal keepers from Cleveland Metroparks Zoo to help one of the world’s most critically endangered animals at Winos for Rhinos. Winos for Rhinos takes place on Sunday, August 26, from 4-7 p.m. at The Wine Bar in Rocky River. Go wild with five wine tasting stations paired with hors d’oeuvres, special rhino door prizes, entertainment and a silent auction. Tickets are $50 per person and proceeds benefit rhino sanctuaries in Africa and Indonesia. Tickets are available at The Wine Bar or call 216-661-6500 Ext. 4452. The eastern black rhinoceros (Diceros bicornis michaeli) is classified as “critically endangered” in the wild by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, the primary organization for quantifying conservation assessment efforts. The IUCN estimates there are less than 1,000 of this rhino subspecies left in the wild, concentrated primarily in Kenya, South Africa and Tanzania.
