- Power-metalist Thor, riffing at the Beachland Thursday, August 11.
"Jamie just kind of forced himself into the band when our old drummer quit," says singer-guitarist Matt Miner. "He called me up and said, 'I'm your new drummer.' I've known him since he was 15, and he's one of my favorite drummers. He hits the drums hard, and he knows how to make them sound good."
With a sound that's as thick and viscous as bubbling tar, Teeth of the Hydra has been accurately described as "a cross between Celtic Frost and Black Sabbath." With members from Cleveland and Columbus, Teeth has a light gig schedule, but plays shows from Minneapolis to New York City, where it impressed Tee Pee owner Tony Presedo.
"I think their performance is great," says Presedo. "Every guy in the band is great. For a band with brutal vocals, it's really catchy. I think it fits really well with the roots of the label and with some metal and stoner stuff we have planned."
The band plans to record an album for a spring 2006 release. Presedo says the disc will be distributed in the U.S. through Caroline, with likely European distribution through Cargo Records.

"You can still get critical acclaim and press, but be unable to pull in crowds consistently." Featuring trumpet player Deyampert Giles, the Matt Gerovac Explosion will play a farewell show Friday, August 19, at the Grog Shop (2785 Euclid Heights Boulevard, Cleveland Heights).
