Rock & Pop, Seasonal Special Happenings

Woods/White Pines/Stems

When: Thu., July 18, 8:30 p.m. 2013

Light up and hit play. It’s a midsummer evening and you’re in the mood from some lo-fi indie business. Woods is here for you. The band’s seven albums to date have cultivated a nice throwback vibe to Bay Area psychedelia, despite the musicians hailing from Brooklyn. And that, of course, makes for a nice recipe for a July sunset. The uninitiated would do well to start with last year’s Bend Beyond and work backward from there. The title track of that album will provide a pretty good idea of where the band’s coming from. Bend Beyond has been the band’s most “intentional” album, with each member working more closely on individual contributions to the overall songcraft. Pull up “Is It Honest?” for a glimpse into frontman Jeremy Earl’s patience and emotion, all riddled throughout the work. White Pines and Stems will open the show. (Eric Sandy)

Price: $10 ADV, $12 DOS
