When: Sat., Sept. 1 2012
You probably didn’t know that a yo-yo — that toy you paid a couple of bucks for as a kid — can set you back up to $100 for a super-duper, ultra-fancy model like the Duncan “Screaming Eagle.” And you probably didn't know that those tricks you used to do for your friends on the playground are now choreographed into intricate routines that vie for championships. Now that you do, come and discover the world of competitive yo-yoing at the Beachland Ballroom today during the third annual Ohio State Yo-Yo Contest. From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., some of the top yo-yo players from Ohio (and beyond) will be rolling out their best stuff in hopes of being named Ohio champion. You can drop in anytime; it’s free to watch. If what you see excites you, you’re sure to meet members of the nearby Cleveland Yo-Yo Club who will be glad to welcome you aboard. You probably didn’t know Cleveland had a yo-yo club either.
