Yoni & Geti/AdvanceBase/Fresh Produce

When: Sat., June 4, 9 p.m. 2016

Yoni (Yoni Wolf of Why?) and Geti (indie rapper Serengeti) just released their first collaborative album, Testarossa. an adventure in the space between hip-hop and rap. The quirky indie rock-rap of Why? (think They Might Be Giants with deadpan vocal interludes) becomes apparent in the samples and embellishments chosen for the hip-hop segments, while Serengeti populates the tracks with his characteristic smooth rhymes (Yoni sings a line or two as well). The two are not strangers: Wolf co-produced Serengeti’s Family & Friends with Advance Base in 2011. Testarossa is a soundtrack for the story of a young couple, Davy and Maddy, who, after a shotgun wedding, live out a strained marriage as Davy gives preferential treatment to his music career over his growing family. Follow Davy’s life of indulgence and guilt in a model Testarossa, one of the few signs of devotion Davy bestows upon his kids. (Bethany Kaufman)
