Arena gets tagged as a top laser palace.

by

Chances are good you can track down Thom Pennington after a day of homeschooling. And on weekends, when he's mastering his laser-tag prowess, the North Royalton fifth-grader practically calls Lazer X Treme his second home. "It's a great way to work out your aggressions," says Pennington. "It's also a cool way to make new friends." The mammoth arena is designed with a temple-in-the-jungle theme, along with dramatic pink and blue light displays, fog machines, and heart-pounding New Age music. Its bi-level play area boasts both open space for in-your-face assaults and cozy nooks for sneak-from-behind attacks with handheld laser guns. The place even grabbed the attention of lasertagguy.com, which ranked it as one of the 10 best laser-tag arenas in the country. "Like many of the arenas I love, the lighting is not just a bunch of black lights. Some parts are bright; some parts are dark," writes one of the judges on the site. "This makes for a visually appealing arena." Lazer X Treme is open noon to 6 p.m. Sundays, 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, 6 to 11 p.m. Fridays, and noon to 11 p.m. Saturdays at 13409 Smith Road in Middleburg Heights. Fee is $6 to $18 on weekdays and $7 to $25 on weekends. Call 440-842-6044 or visit www.lazerxtreme.com.
Sundays, 12-6 p.m.; Wednesdays, Thursdays, 6-9 p.m.; Fridays, 6-11 p.m.; Saturdays, 12-11 p.m., 2008
