6/20: CMA's Solstice Party

by

To celebrate the opening of its new East Wing, the Cleveland Museum of Art (11150 East Blvd., 216.421.7350) is doing the unthinkable, at least by museum standards: It’s staying up past midnight and letting indie-rockers play in its hallowed halls. The evening kicks off at 7 p.m. with the Django Reinhardt-inspired Hot Club of Detroit. The Ralph Carney-led Balloon Bass Trio, the Eastern European-minded Slavic Soul Party and indie-dance icon Dan Deacon follow. New York basement bhangra queen DJ Rekha takes the stage at 11:30 p.m., before Cleveland psychedelic noisemakers Emeralds wrap things up at the unholy hour of 1 a.m. All night long, Chicago-based DJ Dante Carfagne will bring you back to the days when Robert’s Party Lounge on Kinsman was the swinging joint in town as he spins old R&B tunes from Cleveland’s past, dusting off singles he’s collected from forgotten local labels like Way Out and Soul Kitchen. Tickets are cheaper the later you arrive, so get there at 5 p.m. for the pre-party and pay $150, or arrive after 10 and shell out only $15. — Jeff Niesel
