8/8: Les Delices at Harkness Chapel

by

Baroque oboist Debra Nagy leads the well-mannered chamber-music group Les Delices, who explore the relationship between French baroque music and its flashier Italian counterpart on their latest album, The Tastes Reunited. The playing is highly refined and beautifully balanced, and it doesn’t sound like the soloists are showing off. That’s because French composers (like Francois Couperin, Pierre Danican Philidor and Louis-Nicolas Clerambault) didn’t put individual players in the spotlight as much as their contemporaries did. Nagy — an Oberlin Conservatory grad, just like many of her players — earned a graduate degree at Case Western Reserve University, where she now teaches. She and Les Delices harpsichordist Lisa Goode Crawford will mark the release of the new CD with two performances. The first is at 7:30 tonight at TAP Jewelry Studios (1667 E. 40th St., No. 3-B, 800.838.3006, brownpapertickets.com); tickets are $35 and include a wine-and-cheese reception and a copy of the CD. The second performance starts at 4 p.m. tomorrow at Harkness Chapel (11200 Bellflower Rd.). That concert is free, with a $15 suggested donation. — Michael Gill
