9/7: Peace Show

by

The annual Cleveland Peace Show has become so much more than the anti-air show, even though its original aim was to counteract what the organizers — Artists for Peace and the Cleveland Nonviolence Network — saw as the Cleveland National Air Show’s focus on war and the military. Born during the saber-rattling of 2002 that preceded the invasion of Iraq, the Peace Show is now in its eighth year. With its slogan “Nonviolence Works. War Doesn’t,” the event offers an afternoon of music, food, games, crafts and information booths that emphasize a better, more peaceful word. The music lineup this year is all about the ladies: blues singer/guitarist/trumpeter Kristine Jackson, jazz vocalist Peggi Cella, acoustic folksingers Cindy MacKay and Deborah Van Kleef, and lesbian rock band Early Girl are scheduled to perform. It happens from noon-6 p.m. at Willard Park (E. 9th and Lakeside). It’s free. Go to clevelandnonvilence.org for info. — Anastasia Pantsios
