10/3: Mat Kearney at House of Blues

Mat Kearney is solid proof that television is the new radio. The Nashville-based singer-songwriter’s first album, Bullet, flew under the radar but snagged enough attention to net him a record deal. The follow-up record, Nothing Left to Lose, included a number of reworked tracks from his debut, as well as some new songs that ended up on episodes of Grey’s Anatomy, NCIS, Bones, Dirty Sexy Money, The Hills, Scrubs, The Closer and others, which in turn sparked downloads and albums sales (although high profile tours with John Mayer, the Fray, Sheryl Crow and Train probably didn’t hurt either). Kearney’s third album, City of Black & White, came out earlier this year and was met with similar reception and result. Want to hear Mat Kearney’s next big hit? Don’t worry — the fall TV season just kicked off. Diane Birch opens at 7:30 p.m. at House of Blues (308 Euclid Avenue, 216.523.2583). Tickets: $20-$29.50. — Brian Baker
