10/18: Ensemble Theatre Benefit

If Cleveland’s Ensemble Theatre had folded after its 2008-2009 season, people would have understood. Earlier this year, both Lucia and Licia Colombi, the sparkplugs behind the company, passed away. But the company, with its mission of reviving classic 20th-century American pieces, regrouped and moved on under new artistic director Bernard Canepari and managing director (and Lucia’s husband) Martin Cosentino. The group’s 30th anniversary fundraiser, “We Are the Light of the World” — which takes place at 5:30 p.m. at the Cleveland Play House’s Bolton Theatre and Lobby (8500 Euclid Ave.) — is dedicated to the twin sisters. The $65 ticket includes a buffet dinner, cash bar, silent auction and a special program of entertainment (music, dance numbers, readings and performance excerpts) — much of it by members of the Ensemble “family” and revolving around the lives and accomplishments of Lucia and Licia. In addition, another pair of major contributors to Ensemble and the Cleveland theater scene will be honored: Dorothy and Ruben Silver.
