Don’t forget the animals this holiday season! The Geauga County APL’s Rescue Village (15463 Chillicothe Rd., Russell Township, 440.338.4819) is inviting one and all to its Peace & Paws Holiday Celebration and Adoptathon, kicking off from 6-8 tonight with a candle-lighting and blessing of the animals in its Krantz Celebration Garden. It will be accompanied by holiday music, cider, cocoa and desserts. A holiday flea-less market runs from noon-8 p.m. today and noon-5 p.m. tomorrow and Sunday, when visitors can shop for animal-related gifts, have photos taken with Santa Paws and check out all the pets waiting for homes. If you know someone who’s looking for a new pet, get them a gift certificate to come in and meet the animals after the holidays. If they love animals but can’t have one, the Rescue Village offers cage sponsorships: for a certain amount, they’ll send your friend a different animal’s picture and story each month. It’s free. — Anastasia Pantsios
