1/15: The Dutchess and the Duke at Grog Shop

by

Kimberly Morrison (the Dutchess) and Jesse Lortz (the Duke) channel their love of Dylan-era folk and Stonesy rock through a contemporary sensibility informed by plaintive ballads (just like My Morning Jacket) and punk passion (inspired by X’s John Doe and Exene). The duo’s second album, Sunset/Sunrise, is slightly lighter than 2008’s She’s the Dutchess, He’s the Duke, while still steering toward baroque folk-pop territory. Think A.C. Newman and Neko Case leading campfire songs at a Byrds barbeque. Their execution of both albums onstage can be breathtaking. The Dutchess and the Duke play the Grog Shop (2785 Euclid Heights Blvd., Cleveland Hts., 216.321.5588). Medication and Goodmorning Valentine open at 9 p.m. Tickets: $10. — Brian Baker
