Dante Rodriguez says he prefers organizing art exhibits by themes. But for the new Boldfigures at Wall Eye Gallery, he started with artists. After inviting people whose work he likes, Rodriguez looked for what they had in common. He discovered that all of them included treatments of the human figure — in political commentary, expression of daily life and even as pure form. That’s what’s on view in Rodriguez’s new Detroit Shoreway space. In addition to work by Rodriguez, the show includes pieces by Hannah Verbeuren, Ken Nevadomi, Barbara Konrad and Claudio Orso-Giacone. Boldfigures opens with a reception from 6-11 p.m. and hangs through February 7 at Wall Eye Gallery (5304 Detroit Ave., 216.640.7769). Admission is free. — Gill
