The Akron Art Museum will play host to local premieres of a variety of different movies this weekend as part of Akron Film’s Spark: A Family Festival. A film by the producers of acclaimed movies such as Kirkou and the Sorceress and Triplets of Belleville, the Irish animated feature The Secret of Kells kicks things off at 12:15 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16. It’s followed at 2 p.m. by a program of international shorts that includes a segment of films created locally during a Jan. 3 workshop at the museum. At 3:15 p.m., the museum shows Girls Rock!: The Movie, a film about a group of young girls who learn how play rock 'n’ roll at band camp. “This is the first Akron Film program created for all ages, not just for adults or kids,” says Akron Film co-executive director Rob Lucas. The screenings are all free. Find more information at akronfilmfestival.com.
