After reading this week's cover story on Mick Boogie
— DJ to the Cavs and beat maker to the best — you may find yourself craving a night of topnotch turntablism.
If you can't afford the $4 million it takes to get to a Cavs' homer to watch Mick spin, don't fret. Tonight, The Lime Spider in Akron is hosting none other DJ Forrest Getemgump
, whose spinning skills more than rival those of Boogie's.
An internationally-acclaimed purveyor of all things breakbeat and bboy, Forrest has been doing his thing since the early 80s. A native of hip hop's birthplace, NYC, Forrest eventually made his way to Ohio, where he helped found the Illstyle Rockers crew, who dominate Columbus's thriving hip hop scene.
Tonight, Forrest will be offering up a truly old school set. He'll only be spinning soul and funk 45s. Best part is, it only costs 2 bone notes to check him out. And if you miss him tonight, you can always catch him again on February 22. — Denise Grollmus
