Party Like It's 1989 at Rocky River's Linden Tavern. (That mean's 99-cent beers).

There’s still time to score some real bargains at Rocky River’s Linden Tavern, where owners Herb, Kevin, and Julie Eglinski are celebrating this week's 18th anniversary by rolling back prices on selected dishes to their 1989 prices. Among other bargains, that means $4.99 chicken paprikash and homemade meatloaf today; 15-cent wings on Wednesday, washed down by 99-cent drafts; $7.99 prime-rib dinners on Thursday; and on Friday, the Linden’s highly esteemed fresh Lake Erie perch dinner for a mere $7.99. The anniversary specials are available starting at 4 p.m. daily; for this week only, reservations will not be accepted. Check the Tavern's Web site to see the entire lineup of food and drink specials. Small, friendly and reliably good, the Linden has been on our list of favorite stops since we first discovered it back in 1998. Still, dining there used to present one major drawback: The place was smoky as hell. Now, of course, in keeping with Ohio law, the tavern has become entirely smoke free, and according to the owners, customers are loving it. “We have no complaints,” agrees server Sharon Perry. “For the Linden, the smoking ban has been a very positive thing.” --- Elaine T.
