Hot Stove League: Why Bud Selig Must Go

In today's Plain Dealer, Mark Gillispie provides perhaps the best conclusion to the Mitchell Report on steroids in baseball: Commissioner Bud Selig must go. It's little doubt that the major leagues are the Wal-Mart of the sporting world, the bumbling entity that still manages to make piles of money despite breathtaking mismanagement. But while the rest of the press concentrates on the big names revealed by Mitchell, Gillispie gets to the heart of all: That the man running the show just happens to be a huge moron. Gillispie offers a step-by-step indictment of Selig's years as commissioner. This is what happens when you take the owner of the league's worst run franchise and make him the boss. It's definitely worth a read. -- Pete Kotz
