Ira Glass: A face meant for radio
This American Life, Ira Glass’ radio show about the magic that surrounds everyday folks is coming to Cleveland… sorta. Fans of David Sedaris, John Hodgman, Sarah Vowell and Alex Blumberg will get the chance to see their favorite storytellers in high definition, which might not be the best thing, because they’re in radio for a reason… Here are the details the show sent us:
On Thursday, May 1, acclaimed radio and television host Ira Glass will bring the wildly popular show This American Life to the big screen for a one-night only event. Glass debuts never-before-seen extraordinary, funny and true stories from everyday life, shows outtakes, and answers audience questions. This exclusive theatre event will be broadcast LIVE from New York via satellite to select movie theatres nationwide. This one-night event features special guests and is presented in HD and Cinema Surround Sound. Tickets go on sale beginning April 4th.
The show will come to Severance Town Center in Cleveland Heights. Attendees can submit a question for Ira in advance by sending it to ask@thisamericanlife.org. Hints on getting your question chosen: Ira loves the defunct FOX television show the O.C., and an Onion article that came out last year made him cry. So those two topics are good starters. As for something more juicy, public radio insiders all know that Ira was quite the ladies man back in the day. He had audio producers swooning over his oversized black glasses and nasally voice. But anyways, maybe ask him what’s it like to replace Noah Adams as the Wilt Chamberlain of public radio. – Bradley Campbell
