Tuscan Treats: The grapey goodness of Italy featured at Michaelangelo’s wine dinner


For those who love the sun-drenched wines of Tuscany – the Chiantis, Brunellos, and so-called Super Tuscans (a full-bodied blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese grapes) – an upcoming wine dinner at Little Italy’s Michaelangelo’s, set for 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 24, seems bound to be a treat. ... Presenting the wines will be winemaker Andrea Cragnotti, owner of Tuscany’s Corte alla Flora winery. And to eat, get a load of executive chef and co-owner Michael Annandono’s mouthwatering, six-course menu, beginning with a trio of artichoke, purple fig, and heirloom tomato crostini, matched with an ’06 Podere del Giuggiolo (a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay), and winding up with a chocolate mousse bombe, paired with the sweet, exotic dessert wine, Vin Santo del Chianti. In between, find a prosciutto and melon antipasti, accompanied by a 100-percent Sangiovese; Kobe beef carpaccio with a Rosso di Montepulciano; veal tortellini with Vino Nobile di Montepulciano; and New Zealand rack of lamb, with Corte alla Flora’s Super Tuscan.
