Crash in Medina Leaves Pet Monkey On a Pole, Dead Animals in Street

  • Pet monkeys don't like car crashes or being dressed up.

If you happened to be driving through Medina this morning and saw animal carcasses strewn across the road, a pet monkey sitting on top of a utility pole, and a crashed truck, don't worry, everyone is OK. Except maybe for you, the nightmares you'll have tonight, and the queasiness with which you'll sit down over lunch today.

A truck carrying cargo from a meat processing plant was involved in an accident that left the driver's pet monkey frightened enough to scale a pole to evade the madness and dead animals (the report doesn't make it clear whether we're talking about pork, chicken, or beef here, but in our minds it's a potpourri of all three) in the road.

The driver is safe, but more importantly, the meat processing plant sent a new truck to pick up the cargo. Can't waste perfectly good meat. According to the AP:

The State Highway Patrol says the frightened monkey scampered up the pole after the truck, hauling carcasses for a meat processing plant, flipped over while going into a curve late Monday afternoon. It happened on a local road in northeast Medina County.

Troopers say the truck driver was OK. The monkey had to be coaxed down from its perch.

The meat plant sent another truck to pick up the carcasses. State and county highway crews were sent to help clean up the mess.

From farm to plant to truck to road to plant to grocery store to your dinner table. A new if bulky slogan is born.
