Shoppers at Super Kmart came to the rescue of a 1-year-old yesterday when they noticed the tot in a car.
There was great cause for concern: It was 90 degrees outside, the windows were up, and the baby was in the car by himself.
After calling the cops, the shoppers alerted employees at the store so they could make an announcement and alert whatever bonehead who had made the dangerous decision to come out and unlock the doors.
The store made an announcement. Twenty minutes later, no one had responded.
Finally, 32-year-old Danielle Renftle, the mother, emerged from the store, seemingly done with her tube sock and bargain shopping and ready to be a mother again after her little me-time.
Yes, it took her over twenty minutes from hearing the announcement to come outside. Not a shocking development if you consider that she left the child in the car in the first place.
Her son, Tristan Lee Baker, had a temperature near 100-degrees when officers finally opened the car. He was taken by ambulance to Community Regional Medical Center.
According to 19 Action News, Renftle was arrested by cops for child endangering. She was released on $1,000 bond.
Tristan's father was contacted by police after the incident.
