According to numerous reports, the newest Saturday Night Live cast member is Cleveland’s Vanessa Bayer. Any female not named Kristen Wiig is a welcome addition.

Click the link for her comedy cred, or check out the clip after the jump to see her in action in a California Blue Shield commercial, which has nothing to do with her comedic chops.

Bayer was signed out of Chicago, where she was a touring member of the Second City comedy troupe. Her Second City bio says…

“The Cleveland native was director of Bloomers sketch group at the University of Pennsylvania and has interned at Late Night With Conan O'Brien and Sesame Street. Vanessa now performs in Chicago with iO Theater's Revolver, the puppet show FELT, Annoyance's Splatter Theater and Lil Talent Show and does stand-up at Zanies. Many thanks to her sassy family and friends for teaching her that laughter truly is the best medicine.”

The family includes her older brother, music dude Jonah Bayer, a writer and musician who’s moved on to Brooklyn, NYC. His Cleveland credits include a run as Alternative Press music reviews editor and guitarist of post-hardcore band the Lovekill. — D.X. Ferris
