Corey Bason, 20, is in custody and being held on $1 million bond for allegedly raping a 5-year-old girl.

Police were called after the victim informed her aunt, who was babysitting that night, that Bason had "pulled her pants down and performed a sexual act." The aunt informed the child's mother.

Why Bason was in the house and his relationship with the family is still being investigated by authorities.

Bason denies sexually assaulting the girl, instead blaming the attack on another unnamed male who was in the house at the time.

The Morning Journal reports:

Lorain police Sgt. Mark Carpentiere said Bason was arrested just before 7 a.m. He added the case is still under investigation.

"We're not releasing any more details," Carpentiere said. "Just because he was arrested, the investigation is not complete."

Carpentiere said the police department is still working to iron out Bason's relationship to the girl and why he was at the house with the baby sitter.

"We're still sorting that out," he said. "We're looking to determine exactly how he knows her and how he has contact with her. That's one of the hardest things to figure out."
