Think Obama isn't an American citizen? Think our President is a Muslim? You are dumb. Sorry, just a fact. But this is America, after all, and you have the right to be ignorant if you wish — we're pretty sure it's a provision included by our wise forefathers in the Constitution, right after separation of church and state and right before a sentence declaring their love for banging slaves and smoking pot— and those charged with carrying on the legacy of the founders should, nay, must defend that right.
Gawker points out that John Boehner is carrying the torch for stupid people, quoting the AP:
House Speaker John Boehner says Americans have a right to think what they want to think, even when they're wrong about President Barack Obama's citizenship and his religion...
When the host of NBC's "Meet the Press" asked Boehner whether he, as speaker of the House, had a responsibility to "stand up to that kind of ignorance," Boehner told David Gregory: "It's not my job to tell the American people what to think. Our job in Washington is to listen to the American people."
