It's been a long time coming but the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Library and Archives — at the Tri-C Metro campus in the new Center for the Creative Arts — opens to the public tomorrow at 9 a.m. It will be open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Scene first wrote about the archives nearly two years ago. At that time, it was slated to open at the end of 2010. Archives director Andy Leach had come on board in January 2009 and had begun the lengthy process of combing through the Rock Hall's collection of materials, and getting them processed and cataloged.
It turned out to be a more time-consuming process than he'd originally foreseen.
"We created this library from scratch, which is a complicated process," says Leach. "Hiring staff, processing, cataloging, getting our systems set up — all of that took time. I never worked so hard on something."
He says that the work is still far from complete — processing and cataloging, as well as collecting, will be ongoing "as long as we exist." And he adds that any glitches in the system will be things the public is unlikely to notice.
