"Charlize Theron Hired To Ride Struggling Cleveland Light Rail System Monday Through Friday," reads the headline to this breaking news story:
CLEVELAND—As part of an ongoing effort to rejuvenate its public transportation system, the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority announced Wednesday that it had signed a three-year, $32 million deal hiring Academy Award—winning actress Charlize Theron to ride the city's light-rail lines eight hours a day, Monday through Friday.
Wait! Stop! Don't run out and buy that RTA pass. The headline is from satirical paper The Onion. having a little fun at Cleveland's expense.
But given the recently demonstrated propensity of certain politicians to treat the Onion as a reliable news source — and it's probably at least as reliable as Fox News — we can probably expect to see some elected officials spending a lot more time riding the Rapid. — Anastasia Pantsios
