The Best of Cleveland 2012 issue is online and on the streets now. Read it, love it. In addition to the usual categories, there were some offbeat staff picks. We'll be posting them here over the next few days.
Best Unlikely Fashionista Soiree: Third Fridays at 78th Street Studios
In just a couple of years, Dan Bush has filled his cavernous Gordon Square building — formerly the home of American Greetings — with an array of artists’ studios and galleries, from the sleek and high-end to the cluttered and funky. And the crowd that shows up for 78th Street’s monthly “Third Fridays” is just as eclectic, featuring fresh-faced art students, young parents with toddlers in tow, and wizened old hippies jostling for a peek at what’s going on. Yes, the art, the performers, and the wares are great — but the people themselves make for the best viewing. Sporting looks you won’t find at any mall, they flaunt everything from homemade designs to thrift-store ensembles to gear snagged from local boutiques. Weirdly patterned leggings, artfully cut tunics, stunning sky-high boots, extravagant and goofy hats, sweeping maxiskirts, and copious glitter — it’s all part of the fashion parade.
