Cleveland to Lima: (This is Literally a Link to Driving Directions)

If you've got that jonesin' for Ohio politics in general and the pageantry of annual speeches in particular, then boy have I got a treat for you. Though Governor John Kasich, in a devious "coincidence," scheduled his State of the State speech for the same day as Ed Fitzgerald's State of the County address, at least he had the courtesy to put it in the evening.

The theory went that Kasich didn't want Fitzgerald hogging the spotlight from out-of-town writers. But it's not like the die-hard folks among us have to choose. If you don't dawdle, there's enough time to attend Fitzgerald's noontime speech at the Cleveland Renaissance Hotel and make it to the Lima Veterans Memorial Civic & Convention Center by 6:45 to hear Kasich.

The City Club estimates that Fitzgerald will be done by 1:30 or 2 p.m. He plans to present a report card for the county "on the integrity side and the efficiency side" and has told PD editors that he intends to break major news about county projects. He's said he likely won't bring state affairs into his remarks — i.e., no Kasich bashing or announcement of gubernatorial bid — so he he can't ramble for too long.

So let's say you leave Cleveland by 2:15 p.m. Google says it'll take just under three hours to get to Lima by car, so you'll have a solid hour-and-a-half to kill before Kasich's address, which will be extemporized, as is his custom.

There's a place called Kewpee's Hamburgers down the street in Lima where it's alleged (via user comments) that you can dip your fries in chocolate malt. Just saying.
