Mentor Resident Brandon Ashmore Downloaded The 50 Billionth iOS App

Years from now, we'll refer to May 16 as "Brandon Ashmore Day" and children will not have school on this most hallowed of holidays.

Ashmore, as if you hadn't already heard, downloaded the 50 billionth iOS app today.

His selection? A two-player word game called "Say The Same Thing." In return, Ashmore picked up a handy $10,000 in credit within the app store.

“They actually called me first, several times, because I didn’t actually believe I won, but then they started saying things that they could not have known (unless it was legitimate),” Ashmore cryptically told The News-Herald.

This development comes just a shade under five years since the app store first opened. Customers, Apple says, download 800 apps per second.

But only one of them will be remembered.
