In the new music video for his catchy single “It’s Your Night,” singer Alex Angelo busts some serious dance moves. Sure, he throws his hands in the air like he just doesn’t care. But he also writhes and shuffles like a young Justin Timberlake. Since the music video came out last month, the song’s climbed to the top of the Radio Disney charts, lending much anticipation to Angelo’s tour with pop star Austin Mahone. The tour kicks off in Miami Beach, Florida at the end of the month and then concludes in Pittsburgh on March 9.
“It was great,” Angelo says of filming the music video. “I recorded it with a great guy who figures out what you want and helps you achieve it. All the dancers were friends of mine and some were contest winners.”
Angelo, 13, gravitated toward dancing at a very young age.
“Ever since I was very little, I was always dancing and jumping around,” he says, adding that two dancers will accompany him on his current tour. He went to a Cavs audition for a youth dance team and quickly learned to refine his approach.
“I was on the floor squirming and going as well as I could,” he says of his audition. “They took me under their wing. Much practice and time went into the skills I have now.”
Angelo, who also DJs and has DJed at several Cavs games, is preparing to release an EP. While he might appear to be on the same trajectory as teen sensations such as Justin Bieber, he says he doesn’t anticipate turning into a troublemaker once the fame hits.
“I would rather focus on the positive and [Bieber] motivates me to be a better person who is cool and down to earth and humble,” he says. “I’ve always been very mature. I think about that stuff and it motivates me. I don't want to be a disappointment to someone who meets me. I want to be cool, calm and collected.”
