I’m sure you’ve been asked on more than one occasion, the somewhat morbid yet endlessly fun question, “What would you choose as your last meal?” It’s a tough one — the possibilities are so very endless. Narrowing the scope of this question down to one specific restaurant certainly makes the decision a lot more manageable.
So what would you choose as your last meal from Dante Boccuzzi’s casual Italian eatery, D.C. Pasta Co. (12214 Pearl Road, 440-238-8500, restaurantdante.us)? With a strong menu of starters, salads, pastas, meatballs, main dishes, olives, marinated veggies, sliced meats, cheeses and desserts; it still is a very difficult decision. Luckily, we’ve got you covered.
Appetizer: Take a seat in the restaurant’s cozy dining room and order a nice wine off of the thoughtful "30 under $30" bottle list. While you settle in, nibble on a dish of olives. There are quite a few to choose from but we heartily recommend the highly addictive Castelvetranos — vibrant green, meaty and slightly sweet.
Salad: Next, dive into a crisp, light salad. The Verde Tagliata chopped green salad featuring crunchy peppers and onions, tossed with a red wine shallot vinaigrette is simplicity at its best. It’s a perfect way to balance the richness of what’s to come in the next two courses.
Pasta: D.C. Pasta’s Carbonara con Tartufo with salty pancetta, creamy poached egg and aromatic truffled cream certainly is decadent enough for a sensationally sinful last meal. From the intense truffle aroma, to the gorgeous ooze of bright yellow yolk as you cut into the poached egg on top, this dish is nothing short of pasta perfection.
Dessert: Finally, dip your spoon into the ever-so divine Tartufo di Cioccolato, a ball of chocolate ice cream encasing a caramel and hazelnut ice cream center, all rolled in dark cocoa. The way I see it, a last meal cannot end any other way than by indulging in many mouthfuls of heavenly chocolate.
As you exit, don’t forget to grab a little handful of sweets from the candy cart. After all, you only live once.
