Friends of Jane, an Ohio company put together by locals Thomas Kelly, Michael Heaton, David Spero and Michael Stanley, has launched a campaign to finance a documentary film about the late Jane Scott, the Plain Dealer reporter who covered rock n’ roll for many years. To help raise money and launch their Kickstarter campaign, Friends of Jane have organized Jane Scott & the Beatles 50th Anniversary Celebration, a benefit at House of Blues on Sept. 15. The event marks the anniversary of the Beatles arrival in Cleveland and also pays tribute to Scott, who got her start as a rock critic by covering that Beatles gig.
The Beatles cover band 1964 – The Tribute will perform; they will play the same set list the Beatles did when they played at Public Hall. Stanley and Beaucoup are also on the bill. The promoters are promising “surprise guest stars” too. According to a press release, “The film is half way home: All pre-production and 10 hours of original footage complete." Friends of Jane say they need $85,000 to reach the goal. "The more we get after that, the better the movie.” DJ E-V hosts the official after party.
