A group of local activists and clergy members calling themselves the "Cleveland 8" have called upon the City's law director to issue warrants for the arrest of officers Timothy Loehmann and Frank Garmback.

After Municipal Judge Ronald Adrine wrote a recommendation last week in which he found probable cause to charge both Loehmann and Garmback in the death of Tamir Rice — the former with murder, involuntary manslaughter, reckless homicide, negligent homicide and dereliction of duty; the latter with negligent homicide and dereliction of duty — the Cleveland 8 want to keep the wheels of justice in motion,

"Will you comply with both Ohio law and the Honorable Judge Adrine's strongly worded recommendation?" the letter to law director Barbara Langhenry asked. "If you do not respond, it will be left to presume you choose to deny the People Procedural Justice. We can only hope differently."

Former city law director Subodh Chandra said in a press release that under Ohio statute, it was actually Judge Adrine's responsibility to issue the warrants, having found probable cause.

"It would then be up to the grand jury and county prosecutor to sustain those charges by indictment," Chandra said.

The Cleveland 8 are as follows: Rev. Dr. Jawanza Colvin, Mr. Joe Worthy, Dr. Rhonda Y. Williams, Ms. Julia Shearson, Mr. Bakari Kitwana, Mr. Ed. Little, Rev. Dr. R.A. Vernon, Ms. Rachelle Smith.

They filed the affidavits on June 9 alleging crimes against the peace and dignity of the State of Ohio.
