At just before 3 a.m. on Aug. 15, an unidentified man broke into Zygote Press on East 30th Street near Superior Blvd. Avenue. He broke in through the front door and stole money from the nonprofit organization’s petty cash drawer. Cleveland police have surveillance footage and fingerprints. However, they aren’t the only ones looking for him.

It appears the same man (in the same dapper hat) and a female accomplice robbed Sanity, a high-end clothing store in Chagrin Falls, at 9:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 4. They entered through a back door and took cash and clothing. Authorities from area police departments believe they have targeted multiple other businesses in the area. They were seen on security cameras driving a dark gray Dodge Dart.

Anyone with information about the Chagrin Falls incident should contact police at 440-247-5036. If you have information regarding the break-in at Zygote Press, please contact Cleveland Police at 216-623-5000.

Zygote Press was founded in 1996 as a nonprofit resource for the region’s printmakers. In its nearly 20 years, Zygote Press has become a destination for printmakers across the country. Its facilities include intaglio, lithography, letter press, relief printing, screen printing and digital media.

The building includes individual studio space, a large workshop, exhibition space (with a year-round exhibition schedule) and archives. Zygote works with all the area’s college and universities’ printmaking departments, and houses multiple resident artists every year. Earlier this year, Zygote opened a beautiful new annex location, Ink House, in Collinwood’s Waterloo Arts District.
