U.S. Marshals Arrest Tremont Carjacking Suspect

There's been a spate of violent crime in Tremont lately — the sort that City Councilman Joe Cimperman has repeatedly told us is cyclical, waxing and waning now and again. Some suspects have been caught by police, and today another one — a Tremont carjacking suspect linked to an eastside shooting — was arrested.

Antowine Palmer, 22, had been targeted by U.S. Marshals and the Cleveland Division of Police for some time now. He was arrested this afternoon in Arbor Park. Police suspect him of a July 25 carjacking in Tremont, an Aug. 12 shooting on East 71st and Hosmer, and other robberies in Cleveland.

While they were at it, officers apprehended Maurice Stewart, 23, who was "hiding under a bathroom sink." Police report that Stewart was involved with a Nov. 8, 2014, robbery. A gun was also taken into custody from a home on East 36th St. as part of the investigation.

"The task force worked hard to clear both of these cases, and because of help from the community and good police work these two dangerous fugitives, and a gun, are off the streets," U.S. Marshal Peter Elliott said in a statement.
