Last Meals Being Served at Americano in Bratenahl

For a restaurant as difficult to find as Americano – located beyond a gatehouse and inside an exclusive lakefront condo building that frowned upon signage and advertising – this wonderful little bistro managed to make a lot of diners very happy. The Euro-American bistro run by partners Cole Davis and chef Vytauras Sasnauskas had a good run, too, one which will cease following dinner service on September 26th after a little more than seven years.

Owner Davis explained that his inability to secure a long-term commitment with the condo board led him to the painful decision to close his first – but likely not last – restaurant.

“This is heartbreaking to us, as we have so enjoyed serving delicious meals and drinks to you over the past 7-plus years, and deeply wanted to continue,” Cole wrote to Americano’s Facebook followers. “Despite massive effort on both parts, the board has decided to go in a new direction with the restaurant.”

There is still time to show your support by dining at the restaurant (One Bratenahl Pl., 216-541-3900) before closing night. A great time to swing by might be for one of the popular Americano Pizza Café nights (Tuesday 5-7 p.m. weather permitting) or one of the Fantastic Big Wine Sales (Thursdays 5-7 p.m.).

Back in June, we broke the news of chef-partner Vytauras Sasnauskas’ plans to open Citizen Pie, a Neapolitan-style pizzeria and café across the street from the Beachland Ballroom in Collinwood. Sasnauskas’ partners in the venture are Claudia Young and Velvet Tango Room owner Paulius Nasvytis. The latest estimates place opening day in October.
